The funding instrument Good Use of Medicines (GGG: Goed Gebruik Geneesmiddelen) from ZonMw is a structural program that aims to optimize the use of medicine and associated health care. The grant is intended to set up research, infrastructure, knowledge utilisation and dissemination. Collaboration between public and private parties is encouraged.
Program components
The program can be divided into components:
- Open Rounds
- Drug Rediscovery: for the repositioning of drugs
- Targeted rounds such as Personalised Medicine and STIP round
- Patient registrations
Within the first two categories, specific calls are posted with regularity. For example, Rediscovery Round 5 was published on March 30. Projects within this call can relate to the more effective use of medicines or to improving the use of medicines in daily practice. This round specifically concerns research into the effectiveness and/or dose optimization of an existing drug that is not under patent, and could potentially be used for an application for which the drug is not (yet) registered. These may include:
- Preclinical studies
- Proof of Concept studies; or
- Clinical validation studies.
The application is in two phases.
