Aim

The aim of the Talent Program Veni-Vidi-Vici is to promote the development and flow of talented researchers. For researchers with increasing experience there are the following components: Veni, Vidi and Vici.

Target group

Talented researchers who belong to the top 10-20% of their peer group (vici top 10%). Veni is aimed at researchers who did not obtain their PhD more than three years ago, Vidi at researchers who received their PhD between three and eight years ago and Vici at researchers who received their PhD no more than 15 years earlier. There is an extension scheme for parenthood.

Application

Veni, Vidi and Vici are successively grants for an innovative research topic, setting up an innovative research line and setting up a research group in an innovative research area.

Grant

Maximum contribution from NWO: Veni € 280,000, Vidi € 800,000 and Vici € 1,500,000 for only the direct personnel and material costs, including the costs of time spent by the applicant. In the case of Vidi and Vici, additional staff must be recruited.

Deadlines

The application consists of two stages. In the first stage, a narrative CV and short research proposal are submitted. In the second stage, the research proposal is elaborated upon.

  • Veni: 5 September 2023 (first stage) and January/February 2024 (research proposal)
  • Vidi: 2 November 2023 (first stage) and March2024 (research proposal)
  • Vici: 14 March 2023 (first stage) and 12 September 2023 (research proposal)

Assessment

The main criteria are the scientific quality of the applicant and the research proposal. Application in science and/or society is also part of the assessment, unless it can be made clear that application is not possible. Applications are submitted to and evaluated by different domains. Applications within the framework of clinical research or care are handled by ZonMw.
