Viability assessment of collaborative and INNOvative business solutions in WorldWIDE markets

The INNOWWIDE call intends to bring European highly innovative SMEs to the forefront of international markets by supporting Market Feasibility Projects (MFPs) in cooperation with a local partner. The call intends to create conditions to increase the uptake of European innovative solutions in markets outside of Europe. An MFP lasts six months.

Current call

The current call opens 25 July 2023 and the deadline is 17 October 2023  (preliminary information – subject to Eureka approval). There will be budget to fund 70 MFPs (€60k per MFP). This is a global and open call: there will be no specific geographic or thematic focus. Calls are expected to continue every year until at least 2027. 

Evaluation results are expected in February 2024, with grant agreement preparation and signature taking place in March 2024. This means that approved MFPs can start in April 2024.

Applicant

For profit innovative SMEs (from an EU Member State or a Horizon Europe associated country), including young companies and start-ups, from any sector looking to compete and start business in new and emerging markets around the world. Only one proposal per applicant SME is allowed.

Project

  • MFPs are the preliminary technical, market, legal, and/or socioeconomic assessments intended to validate the feasibility of your international and innovative business solution within new and emerging global value chains.
  • MFPs may also be the preliminary phase of a future international research and innovation project with local counterparts in the target country that you intend to carry out in the short or medium term.

Consortium

The project must specify at least one partner entity (subcontractor) from the MFP focus country or countries. The MFP must focus on a target third country as pilot market where in to develop and validate the proposed innovative business solution, in close collaboration with local counterparts.

Evaluation criteria

  • Excellence = 30%
  • Impact = 40%
  • Quality and efficiency of implementation = 30%

Grant

  • Fixed grant amount of €60,000, representing a maximum of 70% of total eligible costs (staff, consumables, equipment, subcontracting, others). In other words, the minimum eligible costs must be at least €86,000 and the amount not funded by Innowwide is expected to be co-financed by the applicant.
  • 70% of the grant (€42k) will be disbursed at the beginning. Upon submission and approval of the final report after MFP finalization, the beneficiary will receive the remaining 30%.

Eligible activities

  • Co-creation and technology uptake preparatory work (innovation and technology transfer services).
  • Market research (desk and field studies).
  • Compliance verification.

Optional:

  • Business prospection trips – limited and justifiable within your MFP.
  • Promotional technical material preparation (technology valorisation-oriented) – limited and justifiable within your MFP.

Costs

  • Personnel, subcontracting, purchasing costs (travel and subsistence, equipment depreciation, other goods, works, and services). 
  • There is no specific limit to the subcontracting budget, but it should be higher than 0, because cooperation with a local partner is a requirement for the project.

Duration of the MFP

  • 6 months.

Success rate

In the previous (2022) call, 272 applications were submitted and 50 projects were selected for funding. This is a success rate of approximately 18%. In other words, having a knowledgeable and experienced grant advisor who can guide the writing process can be a great asset to improve your chances!
