The TSE Industry R&D (Research & Development) programme is intended to support innovative industrial concepts that will contribute to cost-effective CO2 reduction by 2030. Projects may cover one of the following four programme lines:
- Closure of industrial chains
- A CO2 -free industrial heat system
- Maximum electrification and radically renewed processes
- Climate-neutral fuels for aviation and shipping, including
- Production of advanced biofuels for aviation and shipping
- Production of synthetic fuels for aviation and shipping
The grant is available for industrial companies that collaborate with other companies and researchers. It is also important to note that the industrial concept that is being developed should have its first market application by 2030 at the latest.
Budget
- The total budget comprises €2.5 million
- The maximum contribution per project is €500,000
- For companies carrying out industrial research, the grant rate is 50%. For experimental development it is 25%
- Medium-sized enterprises receive a bonus of +10%. For small companies, this can be as much as +20%
- The grant for research organisations is 80% for both industrial research and experimental development.

Did you know that there is also a TSE Industry tool available to determine the feasibility of innovative pilot or demonstration projects related to cost-effective CO2 reduction? TSE Industrie studies offers you the possibility to carry out feasibility, environmental, and comparative studies.
TSE Industry Studies
Within this smaller grant instrument, there is a choice of three types of studies:
- Feasibility study, conducted prior to a pilot project;
- Environmental study, conducted prior to environmental investments that do not fall under R&D; and
- Comparative study: conducted prior to environmental investments in a demonstration project that do not fall under R&D.
Projects may cover one of the following six programme lines:
- Closure of industrial chains
- A CO2-free industrial heat system
- Maximum electrification and radically renewed processes
- CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage)
- Other CO2-reducing measures
- Environmental investment in mature technology
Budget and Eligible Costs
- The maximum budget is € 500,000 per project. An exception to this is programme line 4 (CCUS), where a maximum budget of € 2 million per project is assumed. For programme line 6 there is also a lower limit of € 25,000 per project.
- The total budget is €10.6 million.
- A maximum grant rate of 50% applies. Medium-sized enterprises can receive an additional 10% funding. For small enterprises this can go up to +20%.
- In addition, a de minimis statement must be given for a similar study and a maximum of €200,000 per company applies.
- Duration is max. 1 year.
