Development of the Nereda waste water treatment technology

In Europe, most treatment plants based on activated sludge systems. A major problem is the large area required for the settling of this sludge. In cooperation with STOWA and participating water authorities Royal HaskoningDHV developed the Nereda® aerobic granular sludge technology for waste water treatment. The sludge forms grains and therefore precipitates much faster. Nereda® leads to less energy and chemical consumption and the necessary surface area is smaller than in the traditional active slibsystemen. Per balance Nereda® lead to a significant improvement of the ecological footprint of waste water treatment. Meanwhile Nereda® is applied in various places in the Netherlands. The technology is also very succesfully marketed internationally.
