Marlieke van Kesteren, Ph.D.

Grant Consultant

When I have the time, I like to cook new dishes with fresh ingredients. This requires some research in advance: comparing recipes, using knowledge about which flavors fit well together and preparing the ingredients. Then it’s a matter of combining these ingredients in the right way under a tight time schedule. The result is more than the sum of its parts: a delicious dish that you can enjoy alone or with your loved ones!

Working as a grant advisor is similar to this cooking process. After some thorough research, in cooperation with the client, you have to cut all the information into pieces, arrange it, and combine the pieces into a coherent and beautiful request. You have to do this under a tight time schedule and with vision, so that all “ingredients” are optimally expressed while maintaining the common theme. Maintaining this balance, with a convincing and clear story as a result, is the most rewarding challenge for me!
